Episode 8: A Little Update

News this week! I’m starting a new job!

No finished objects to share, but I’m still knitting on my vanilla FLK socks out of String Theory Yarn’s Entanglement base in Brown Dwarf, as well as my Possibly Maybe socks by Cookie A out of Plucky Feet in Goin’ Steady. I’ve also picked up a long languishing WIP, my Charleston Tea hoodie in Plucky Knitter Primo Sport in High Cotton!

This week in spinning, I’ve not touched my braid of fibre from Corgi Hill Farm in Dark Chocolate Fig, but I’ve finished the singles on a batt from By Rebekah With Love in Apricot Shimmer, as well as have started on a braid of Ixchelbunny Super Angorino in Luna and a braid of Polwarth from The Thylacine in On The Rocks.

No stash acquisition this week!

A reminder that the Monster Socks KAL has started!! Woohoo!! So has the handspun socks SAL/KAL! More details are in the Ravelry group. I mentioned spinner’s control cards from VIP Fibers and Vampy.

Episode 7: Socks!

This week has been another one of those busy and yet quiet weeks! The podcast is out late as we picked up a sewing machine that was located in the country over the weekend! How exciting!

I have a few WIPs – a pair of plain vanilla socks for myself with the Fish Lips Kiss Heel out of a String Theory Yarn in the Entanglement base, as well as a pair of Possibly Maybe socks by Cookie A for the February sock club shipment, out of Plucky Knitter Feet in Goin’ Steady! The TARDIS socks received no love this week. :(

There are a couple of FOs as well, I’ve finished the Follow Your Arrow mystery shawl knitalong with Ysolda Teague out of Malabrigo Sock in Côte D’Azure and Lettuce, as well as have finished a pair of vanilla socks for the husbeast with a FLK heel out of ZwergerGarn Opal in Lollipop.

In spinning, I’ve started spinning a braid of superwash merino/bamboo/nylon in Dark Chocolate Fig and have just finished the singles from an Ixchelbunny batt club batt from June 2011 called Goldfish and Paracetamol. I’ve finished plying the fibres from last week –  a 3 ply 70/10/20 merino/angora/tencel blend from Ixchelbunny in Gallifrey, a 3 ply merino/cashmere/silk blend in Horizon from The Thylacine as well as a 2 ply Polwarth/Bamboo blend in Daydream.

For stash acquisition, I’ve received my Southern Cross fibre club shipment for February!

With February coming to an end soon, we need to chat a little about the upcoming -alongs! The Monster Socks KAL begins on 1 March and ends on 31 March AND the Efferverse SAL/KAL has the spinning portion from 1 March to 31 May, and the knitting from 1 June to 30 June! More details are in the Ravelry group.

Episode 6: Thankful

This week hasn’t been all too eventful – I’m still at pottery!

I have two FOs – Bunny Love by Susan B Anderson out of Gynx Yarn’s Merino DK in “Chubby Bunny” from the Velveteen kit from Little Skein in the Big Wool as well as the Pup Tent hat by Catherine Gamroth out of handspun  yarn.

WIPs – I haven’t touched my TARDIS socks at all. I’ve cast on a pair of vanilla socks for the husband in ZwergerGarn Opal in Lollipop. There’s also the Follow Your Arrow mystery KAL with Ysolda Teague – I chose to do Clue 5A.

Spinning wise, I finished a braid of Corgi Hill Farm Mixed BFL in Not So Mellow Yellow, a braid of The Thylacine’s super sorted BFL in “I Still Call Australia Home” and a braid of The Thylacine’s Tasmanian Ringrove Merino Cross in Wilderness. I’ve also finished the singles on The Thylacine’s ** in Horizon. I’ve started spinning a 70/10/20 merino/angora/tencel blend from Ixchelbunny in “Gallifrey”.

In Stash Acquisition this week, I received my first Cookie A sock club parcel for 2014! I’ve also received my Lynai Yarn order!

Don’t forget – we have the Effervesce Socks SAL/KAL coming up soon on 1 March, that will run for 4 months (3 months spinning, 1 month knitting!) as well as the Monster Socks KAL that will be coming up on 1 March as well, that will run for a month!

Episode 5: A Few New Plans

What a quiet but busy week! I’m back at pottery and I’m learning how to quilt on a long arm machine!

This week I have a couple of finished objects. I’ve finished my Socks on a Plane KAL socks, out of Ixchelbunny sock yarn (no idea which base!) in Funky Melon and also the Perimeter Skirt by Laura Chau in Noro Yuzen in colourway 9.

There are a few new knitalongs that are coming up in the works as well! These will be happening after the Ravellenic Games.

I’ve cast on a couple of new projects! I’ve started on my TARDIS socks, which is a mini KAL hosted by Lacey of Moonrover, out of The Thylacine’s Braddon Sock yarn in the TARDIS Blue colourway. There is no pattern for these socks available, but it’s based on the chart from the Bigger on the inside shawl pattern by Kate Atherley, which is available on Knitty.

I’ve also finished Clue 3A and have started on Clue 4A on the Follow Your Arrow mystery KAL with Ysolda Teague.

In spinning news, holy smokes! There is a lot of spinning this week as I scramble to empty bobbins and start new projects. :) I’ve finally finished the maude&me Perendale in Wax Wings that I’d prepped into fauxlags, as well as plied her Polwarth base in Sweet Kerosene. I’ve finished the fibre that I spoke about last week – the BFL that was cut at the ends (horror!). I’ve also spun and plied a Corgi Hill Farm braid of Polwarth in Swamp Gas and dug two old spinning WIPs out (Ixchelbunny’s Navajo Churro in Greybeard’s Moss) and JulieSpins Shetland in Pluto and have finished them YAY! I’ve also finished a ByRebekahWithLove batt from the April 2011 club called Apricot Shimmer. Some new spinning projects this week are Corgi Hill Farm’s Mixed BFL in Not So Mellow Yellow and The Thylacine’s super-sorted BFL in “I Still Call Australia Home”.

This week in stash acquisition, a couple of kits from Little Skein in the Big Wool have arrived! I’ve also received my Plucky Grey Club – Primo Worsted in Hi-Ho, Silver!

Episode 4: I’m Back!

It’s been a long time! How is everybody? Have you been knitting lots?

This week I’m being relatively monogamous – I’m knitting a pair of Socks on a Plane socks together with Jesse (oocha on instagram) and Vanessa (lynaiyarns on instagram) as a little IG KAL! The hashtag is #soapkal if anyone wants to join in. Mine are out of an old unlabelled skein of Ixchelbunny yarn. I don’t know what the base is, but the colourway is Funky Melon. Now, I say relatively “monogamous” as I’m working on the Follow Your Arrow mystery KAL (Ysolda Teague). So far I’m on Clue 1B and 2B and mine’s being knit out of Malabrigo Sock in Cote D’Azure and Lettuce.

I’ve been busy knitting while I’ve been away, too! I have 9 projects to share with you this week. Most of them are pretty small though. 😉 The first are a pair of socks I showed in the last episode, self-designed socks with a little cable running down the side in hand-dyed yarn from a long time ago. The next are a pair of Sign of Four socks, designed by Anne Hanson for the Victorian Writers Knitting Club, out of Zen Yarn Garden Serenity Sock in Hound of the Baskervilles. Then we have a pair of top down (!) vanilla socks, out of Skein Top Draw Socks in Fig. We also have a pair of Rye Socks by tincanknits, converted to fingering weight, out of that Ixchelbunny yarn base I don’t know, in Zen Seaweed, and a pair of Wanderer Fingerless Mittens by The Willow Nest in some hand dyed yarn, repurposed from the sweater I knit for my dad a long time ago. I’ve also finished my Stasis Pullover! The yarn is Brooklyn Tweed Loft in Snowbound and Cast Iron. I’ve also finished my Rock Island shawl by Jared Flood out of Posh Yarn Chloe Lace in a pretty navy blue, as well as Citron by Hilary Smith Callis in Malabrigo Lace in Azul Profundo. Finally, we have a pair of plain old vanilla socks with a Fish Lips KIss Heel in String Theory Colourworks Entanglement in SEU.

I’ve also done a wee bit of spinning, just about 2 oz of BFL from a dyer I will not name, but I do go on my soapbox a little.

For stash enhancement, I share with you this week, 2 skeins of sock yarn from Hedgehog Fibres in the Sock base, in Clay and Lettuce. I’ve also got a skein of Sincere Sheep Luminous in Hathor’s Gem, from the last shipment of the Fall in Full Color 2013 Club by Knitspot.

I’d been doing a little bit of pottery before I left for a month, and I’ve had comments from friends on Instagram who have been interested in some of my pottery, particularly the yarn bowls. I’d been thinking about this for a while and have been wanting to get a pottery wheel, but being out of a job, I don’t have the funds for one at the moment. As a result, I’d been thinking about either starting up a Kickstarter project or just saving up by selling some handspun and/or project bags. I’m not sure what people would rather do, and so I’ve set up a poll on the Ravelry group (yes! There’s a group for the podcast now!) – if you’re not on Ravelry, I’d love it if you could leave me a message by way of comment or email. :)

Ep 3: I don’t know where it comes from!

This week has been busy! I think I might be squeezing in crafting time before I leave for a month (eeks!)

This week, I’ve finished knitting my Blank Canvas by Ysolda Teague out of Posh Yarn Elinor DK in the Ten Green Bottles colourway. I’ve also finished my vanilla socks (David’s Toe Up Sock Cookbook) out of Moonrover Sock in Whipple in the Chrysocolla colourway. I’ve also (!) pulled my Rockefeller by Stephen West out of hibernation and have finished it (except for weaving in the ends and blocking)! It is knit out of A Verb for Keeping Warm in Even Tinier Annapurna, in Thai Iced Tea and Stalagmite. There’s actually quite a few mistakes in one of the wing sections, hahaha! But I’m calling it done!

I have cast on a new sweater! This is the Stasis Pullover by Leila Raabe and I am knitting it out of Brooklyn Tweed LOFT in Snowbound and Cast Iron. I’d knit my sleeve as a swatch, too. I’ve also started knitting on a sock with a little cable detail out of some old hand-dyed yarn. Let me know if you’d like the pattern and I’ll endeavour to write it out.

I’ve been spinning a lot too! I’ve finally plied my maude&me Polwarth in Stay Still and Son of a Preacher (not together). I’ve also been playing with a new wheel, the Bliss (stay tuned for a mini review!) and have finished my first yarns on it out of The Thylacine Corriedale in Maritime, a May 2011 club colourway and Cloudlover Polwarth in Magic Flute. PLUS I’ve been spinning singles on it too! I just now need to ply my maude&me Polwarth in Sweet Kerosene, and I’ve started on some Cloudlover Rambouillet in Cornucopia, a November 2010 club colourway. I’ve got absolutely no progress on maude&me’s Perendale in Wax Wings.

Stash bounty awaits! I’ve recently procured some Loop! Bullseye Bumps in Kermit and Serious Spectrum Coordinate for the Nov/Dec/Jan SAL, as well as Scuba Dive and Spring Ahead because they just fell in the cart. The Knitspot Fall in Full Color Club and Southern Cross Fibre November club shipments have arrived as well.

I apologise in advance as I unfortunately will not be able to update over the next 4 weeks, but I will be back in January! See you then :)

Ep 2: A little bit of brain lag

This week my mind is a little slow, sorry about that. Brain fog is kind of mean!

I’ve finished knitting a pair of vanilla socks (using David’s Toe Up Sock Cookbook) out of the String Theory Colorworks Resonance base in the colourway Histidine, as well as finished Rae by Jane Richmond out of the mystery sparkle yarn.

This week, I am working on yet another pair of vanilla socks, this time out of Moonrover Sock in the Whipple base in the Crysocolla colourway. I’ve also started working on my Blank Canvas by Ysolda Teague out of Posh Yarn Elinor DK in the colourway Ten Green Bottles.

I’ve finished a few yarns this week! I’ve plied The Thylacine’s 70/30 merino/soy blend in the Pepperberry colourway. I’d spun these from rolags. I’ve also plied my Effervesce KAL sock yarn, out of Corgi Hill Farm’s 60/30/10 merino/bamboo/nylon blend in the Riff Raff colourway. I now just need to ply maude&me’s Polwarth base in the Stay Still colourway. This was spun from fauxlags. I’ve also started a few new spinning projects as well, and also now just need to ply maude&me’s Polwarth base in the Son of a Preacher colourway. I’ve started on the first half of maude&me’s Perendale base in Wax Wings, spinning this from a fauxlag prep.

Mini: Fauxlag tutorial

This is a mini tutorial on how I prepare fauxlags using a wooden dowel and handpainted top (the fibre is maude&me Polwarth in the Stay Still colourway). I accidentally say “rolags” in the video. It’s fauxlags! I also show how I spin from them. Sorry if you can’t see much in the first part – if it’s really bad, let me know and I’ll try to record another version!

Ep 1: Weaving up a storm

In this episode, I blather a little too much about nothing at all.

I am still working on my Rae by Jane Richmond out of the mystery sparkle yarn and have started a pair of vanilla socks (David’s Toe Up Sock Cookbook by David Schulz) out of String Theory Colorwork’s Resonance base in the Histidine colourway. I have also swatched for a Blank Canvas by Ysolda Teague in Posh Yarn Elinor DK in Ten Green Bottles for NaKniSweMo.

I have finished my Harvest Dew socks by Rose Hiver out of the Ixchelbunny May 2011 sock club yarn in Pink Panther.

I have not done much spinning this week, but have finished the third bobbin of Corgi Hill Farm’s 60/30/10 merino/bamboo/nylon blend in Riff Raff (which will be turning into the Efferverse socks by Purrlescent, a little SAL/KAL with Kristina, who is eadeny on instagram), as well as started on maude&me’s Polwarth in Stay Still, which is being spun from a fauxlag prep.

I have finished my Dashing scarf from the Spunky Eclectic June 2013 weaving club shipment, out of Spunky Eclectic Rustic Silk, as well as have finished Wash & Shine from the October 2013 club shipment out of the Spunky Eclectic Cotton Boucle and Summer bases. I’ve also finished weaving the fabric for cushion covers (Captured) from the August 2013 club shipment out of the Spunky Eclectic Shine base. This uses a clasped weft technique.

Ep 0: Hello (again)!

In this episode, I speak very briefly about how I got into knitting (as it isn’t a very long story).

I am working on my Harvest Dew socks by Rose Hiver out of Ixchelbunny yarn in the Pink Panther colourway, a May 2011 club offering, having converted the pattern to toe up. I am also working on a Rae scarf by Jane Richmond out of mystery sparkle yarn.

I have finished spinning the singles on a 70/30 merino/soy blend from The Thylacine in the Pepperberry colourway that I’d prepped into rolags. I’m currently working on a 60/30/10 SW merino/bamboo/nylon blend from Corgi Hill Farm in the Riff Raff colourway. Next up will be Polwarth from maude&me in Stay Still. I have prepped the top into fauxlags.

I am currently weaving on the Dashing Scarf by Amy King of the Spunky Eclectic out of Spunky Eclectic Rustic Silk in a blue and orange.

I have a new yarn acquisition – Done Roving Yarns in their Frolicking Feet base in the Plum Pudding colourway.
